Schubert Symphonies Vol.2

The second volume in our collaboration with Ed Gardner on the Schubert symphonies. The pieces were less familiar to me than those on volume one, but after a week with them I really fell for them. At first I found the sixth symphony to be pretty dull, to be honest, but once we began to work on it it began to come to life a little for me, and I think it comes across at fresh and springlike in this recording. I’m always impressed with the way that Chandos captures our orchestra in these sessions. Perhaps some of it is to do with the lovely acoustics in Birmingham Town Hall- a venue I wish we used more for live concerts.
