Weinberg- Symphonies 2 & 21

Not too long after I moved from London to Birmingham to join the CBSO we were involved in a collaborative recording project with Kremerata Baltica. They had already recorded Weinberg’s second symphony with our music director, Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, and now joined us in recording Symphony No.21 live in concert at our home, Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

The Deutsche Grammophone release (Mirga’s first for the label) went on to win the highly sought after Gramophone Magazine Recording of the Year 2020, of which all of us who were involved are very proud. Weinberg’s music is gradually being rediscovered now, and I hope we are able to record more of his music with Mirga in the near future.
